Viral Gists

Bola Tinubu, an All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential aspirant, has reacted to reports of him saying he is ready to get dirty to fulfill his ambition of becoming Nigeria’s President in 2023. Tinubu insisted that he never said he would fight dirty to achieve his presidential ambition, adding that the remark was misunderstood. While speaking on Sunday when he visited Lekan Balogun, the Olubadan designate, in Ibadan, the APC National Leader had said no intimidation or blackmail can stop him, adding that is “ready to get dirty”. However, a statement by Tinubu’s Media Aide, Tunde Rahman, said the former governor of Lagos State was quoted out of context. Rahman said Tinubu made the “get dirty” comment in response to insults thrown at him after he made his intentions to run for the presidency public. He explained that the APC National Leader said he has accepted the insults thrown at him for opting to run for the Presidency as one of the prices he has to pay. The statement reads partly: “Speaking at the residence of Olubadan-Designate, the All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Tinubu, referring to some of the unwarranted attacks against him used the metaphor of wrestling with the pig, saying “if you decide to wrestle with the pig, you must be ready to get dirty.” He said he had accepted to take the insults and dirt thrown at him by some people as a price to pay for venturing into politics and seeking to be President of Nigeria. “Sadly, the wrong headline and story have been latched on by some online platforms/blogs and commentators to pour invective on Asiwaju Tinubu. “These commentaries and remarks are unfortunate because they are groundless, misinformed and misdirected. Hence, this clarification has become imperative. “It bears restating that at no time during the visit and in his speech did Asiwaju indicate that he would fight dirty for his presidential ambition. His words were carefully chosen.” Tinubu recently made public his intention to run for the presidency in 2023.

The chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State, who is the security consultant to Ebonyi State government, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, on Sunday, confirmed the killing of two (2) persons and an attack on NDLEA officer by unknown gunmen

Okoro made this known while briefing journalists in Abakaliki, shortly after his 51st birthday anniversary.

The security consultant lamented the spate of attacks on security operatives in the State by unknown gunmen, stressing that the hoodlums had imbibed a new tactic of trying to put fear into the security operatives.

He revealed the preparedness of the State government to clampdown on all criminals that are terrorizing the citizens of the State.

According to him:

“Last night, the hoodlums went and attacked NDLEA officer. There are unseen political hands in these things that are happening. We are approaching political era when a lot of things happens.

“You see, a lot of persons come and start talking trash. We are in charge. The security agencies, together with the Ebubeagu Security outfit know deep about these things that are happening.

“Few days ago, we apprehended a lot of hoodlums and we handed them over to the police. There are a lot of political hands in these things that are happening in Ebonyi. And very soon, so far the Governor of the State, Chief David Umahi is still the Governor, we are going to put a stop to all these security threats.

“We know the people that are causing this but very soon, we will tell them to stop all these things they are doing. And if they refuse to stop, they will pay heavily for it because it is not good, like when they attacked the NDLEA officer, they killed two (2) persons.

“For what? It’s just to create fear into the security agencies. We will stop it whether they (hoodlums) like it or not. I’m the consultant in charge of the security in Ebonyi State here.

“And I don’t think, it is a good record that after the assistance that the Governor is giving to us to handle the issue of security in the State, he is doing a lot of projects and he can’t be everywhere, and I’m in-charge of the security, they know that I won’t allow them,” he stated.
